This emblematic painting of the older lighthouse at Dungeness was completed on the 31st March 2007 - coincidentally, the painting was finished on the birthday of the lighthouse - A light was first lighted on the 31st March 1904 - making the lighthouse 103 years old this year.
The Lighthouse at Dungeness is no longer operational because its navigational light was eclipsed by the nuclear Power Station which stands a short distance to the west of the lighthouse. Another beautiful lighthouse was erected and has been operational on the Dungeness point since 1961.
